Read the material label

Wool can mean a blend. Ask for a readable fiber label and distinguish military-style from seller-described issue blankets. A color or stripe is not proof of material or provenance.

See the whole blanket

Request unfolded views of both sides and all edges. Look for thinning, holes, stains and repairs. Ask about odor and storage conditions rather than assuming an unused example has escaped deterioration.

Choose dimensions for the use

Measure the space you want to cover. A lap blanket, bed layer and packed camp accessory require different dimensions. Follow care instructions for the known fiber, and do not assume a heavy blanket has a tested warmth rating.
